World Festival on the Beach - Mondello

The successful formula of Windsurf World Festival on the Beach consists in the combination between a spectacular sport competition and constantly surprising live music concerts. It takes place in the enchanting gulf of Mondello in May, and it attracts a large number of windsurf lovers, simple spectators and tourists from all over the world. It is a wonderful opportunity to visit Sicily and its splendid capital, to enjoy a warm summerlike weather before proper summer arrival.

For more than a decade, Windsurf World Festival on the Beach, founded by Albaria Club in Mondello, has been organized both by the Municipality of Palermo and by a “historic” pool of private citizens, whose main concern has constantly been the enrichment of the long-time traditional program, already worldwide known in itself, with a series of innovative secondary events. The result is that for the last six years Assessorato al Turismo della Regione Sicilia (Tourism Council of Sicilian Region) has included Mondello’s Windsurf World Festival on the Beach in the official calendar of major tourist events in Sicily. This Festival, held in a sea resort atmosphere, has contributed to highlight Palermo’s rich cultural heritage, to give it a new modern identity, and celebrate its joyous inhabitants, cristalline sea and wonderful beach.

The promotion of a worldwide fame for Mondello’s beach and gulf was not supposed to be a main concern for Albaria Club and Windsurf World Festival on the Beach. But as media have been giving special attention to this event since early editions, Albaria Club members have modified their statute including actions aiming to the promotion of Sicily’s natural and cultural resources. In the course of time, statements of unconditioned love for Palermo have been pouring on the event, praising Mondello’ tropical-like beach and both Sicily’s cultural heritage and new image, a precious treasure asking to be discovered.
